Driving dangers: Cops and drunks

"High-Speed Chase Leads to Tragedy" has a sad stat:
More that [sic] 300 people a year in the United States are killed in high-speed police chases. One third of them are innocent bystanders. But cops involved in high-speed chases are rarely criminally charged.
So, 100 innocent people per year die (that's 1 every 3 days or so). Your tax dollars at work, the civil"servant" who "serves and protect" the public. NOT!

"Drunk Driving Laws Cause Drunk Driving Accidents" makes great argument on why current laws make drunks even more dangerous. Makes you think!

Raising the Next Rebellious Einsteins

"The World Needs More Rebels Like Einstein" points out the "real" Einstein:
what made Einstein special was his impertinence, his nonconformity, and his distaste for dogma.[...]

At a time when the US, worried about competition from China, is again emphasizing math and science education, Einstein's genius reminds us that a society's competitive advantage comes not from teaching the multiplication or periodic tables but from nurturing rebels. Grinds have their place, but unruly geeks change the world. [...]

"Imagination is more important than knowledge," Einstein later said.
So, how many children, in any school, are being taught to be like Einstein? School and so called "education" are too focused on memorization and knowledge, rather than applying ideas and even stretching the [old] ideas.

American non-justice at work

Stories like: "U.S. attorneys often clash with Washington: Ousted prosecutors, many from the West, had disagreed with an increasingly involved Justice Department" point out how American justice system is about power play, not search for truth and justice.
Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely [Lord Acton]
So much for "the American way." It seems to only exist in comic books. Sigh...

Anti-Big Brother

"Man with TV show alibi wins settlement from L.A.: He was cleared of murder because outtakes from 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' put him at a Dodgers game at the time of the crime."

Video camera can be a good thing as long as it can be used to prove one's innocence. Or prevent police brutality. In that sense, Rodney King was a good thing: video camera allows the playing field between cops and non-cops (both criminals and LAC or law-abiding citizens).
